International Stickball
League
Trades and Free Agent signings into the 2009 Summer Season:
The Tampa Bay Chargers picked up Pierre from the Orlando SkyBounce!
The Chargers have also added a few new ball players to their roster. The names will be disclosed within the week.
The Orlando SkyBounce picked up Stickball's youngest Hall of Famer Albie Santiago.
In addition, Jay from La Familia was signed to a one year contract. One "Final piece" to the Sky Bounce puzzle was the pick up of Manny Padilla aka "The Billy Martin of Stickball" to Manage the team.
Rich Mojica is confident that this was the most critical of the three pick ups. While he feels strongly that Albie's leadership on the field "is probably just as valuable as his playing abilities."
Orlando Sunshine signed two legendary veterans in Speedy Lopez and Wally from Orlando SkyBounce.
The Rockets brought back two former Vikings to "fuel up" their roster.
LaFamilia signed 6'4" First Baseman Lou to a one year contract.
The Tampa Bay Lightnings have not revealed their additions to the roster and will not do so until opening day.
Orlando SkyBounce and the Deltona Rockets ended in a tie during an exhibition mini tournament to determine the location of opening day. Therefore, opening day will take place on the Orlando field on the first Sunday of April.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ - There were some really challenging games this Sunday! But first of all, congratulations to the Orlando Sunshine for their two victories as they defeated both the Tampa Bay Chargers and the Deltona Rockets! While it might be a little late in the season for a playoff run, they certainly have elevated their game and will likely become a playoff contender during the 2009 Spring Season.
- Sky Bounce and Chargers are currently tied for the fourth and final playoff spot! But also have a game each this Sunday against the 5th place La Familia team. But La Familia does have a chance to wipe both Sky Bounce and the Chargers out of the playoff picture if they can muscle out two victories against them on Sunday. -Winter Season Stickball in Florida is HOT HOT HOT!!! The standings say it all! Two teams fighting for the division crown, while three teams are fighting for the final playoff spot!

Your Florida 3x Stickball Champions Miami Hurricanes!
The results:
Round 1:
Deltona Rockets defeated Orlando's La Familia. La Familia jumped out the gates early in the game by scoring 2 quick runs. But the continued pressure applied by Deltona, helped the Rockets to fly past La Familia's strong efforts.
What a wonderful comeback season by La Familia!!!! Making the playoffs was a huge accomplishment. See you in Kissimmee for our stickball clinics during the off season!
Round 1 continued:
The Tampa Bay Lightnings opened the flood gates and the Miami Hurricanes blew right through with a Category 4 by beating the Lightnings 12-5. Lightnings anticipated a quiet storm due to their final season victory in Orlando over the Hurricanes, but Miami had other plans and they followed through with them.
Tampa Lightnings ended up taking third place! Tampa Lightnings brought some spark to the league this winter season and we are looking forward to the continued partnership in the Florida Stickball league...Rumors are: that between the Tampa Bay Chargers and Lightnings, there will be a 3rd team in Tampa this season!
Winter Season Championship Round:
The Miami Hurricanes simply over matched the Deltona Rockets. While the Rockets were able to get off the ground, the Hurricane power proved to have too much turbulence for the Deltona Rockets to handle. Miami ran the board by sweeping the three game series!!!
Congratulations to MVP Elliot Martinez and the Miami Hurricanes are the 2-Time Championship team. Whispers of "3peat" echoed the field and throughout Highway 95 South on Sunday Jan 25th 2009!

to help illustrate the game of Stickball to their country as they prepare for the International Tournament!
Also remember to join our guest from New York, Puerto Rico, Panama, and the assigned country leaders of Stickball from Venezuela, Costa Rica, Mexico, and a point of contact from the Dominican Republic during the Winter Season Dance! Each FLS team will have someone awarded with a Defensive Player and Hitman Award!
Update:
I am sad to announce that Bobby Medina and the Miami Hurricanes have decided to sit out of the Summer season so that they can prepare for their upcoming 2009 tournament. His announcement was made during today's captain huddle. While we are sad to continue without the Miami Hurricanes, we are appreciative that they will be able to apply 100% of their attention towards launching a successful Tournament for the game of Stickball by sacrificing their own passion of playing the game for a season. They will have the support of the Florida Stickball League! Good luck Bobby, you have a wonderful team of players supporting your efforts!
Members of the FSL will look to develop other players in the Miami area to also join the 2009 Miami Tournament while the Hurricanes concentrate their efforts of setting the stage for the main event!

Best games of the year?
- Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Lightnings, the Miami Hurricanes, and the Deltona Rockets for clinching the first 3 of the 4 playoff positions. The Lightning squeezed out a victory over La Familia and entered a 7 inning slugfest against Sky Bounce but pulled out a 10-9 victory after multiple exchanges of the lead.
-Besides the loss to the Sunshine, the Deltona Rockets defeated both Tampa Bay teams to stay within reach of winning the division title next week. This Sunday the Deltona Rockets and Miami Hurricanes play a crucial final regular season game to help determine the division champions.

The Rockets launched into a new "SOLO" system as they hold 1st place all by themselves!
The Deltona Rockets are still undefeated and will be departing to Miami after next week's TurkeyBowl in Orlando! This sets the stage for the current undefeated division leaders to face off against last year's undefeated and current undisputed Champions of the Florida Stickball League in Miami. The Miami Hurricanes will have two weeks to prepare for the upcoming showdown.
All in the Family!
Great day for La Familia as they sneaked a 1-0 victory past Sky Bounce then left the Sunshine on the field with a 5-4 victory during the bottom of the 7th! Although they lost their last game of the day, 1-0 to the Rockets, they certainly played like a Family on a mission!
Fair Day for Tampa Bay!
Both Tampa teams won and lost a game each! A close 1-0 loss to the Rockets and a meaningful 4-3 win over their neighboring Tampa Bay Chargers!
Chargers won a very meaningful game themselves with a 4-1 victory over the Orlando Sky Bounce! ESPM Stickball Analyst Anita Ballnow predicted a 4-1 victory two weeks ago. But mistakenly predicted the wrong team to win...
Sunshine are still under the longest Solar Eclipse in their Stickball History
The Sunshine stickball team continues to struggle during the winter season. They were so close to wining their first game of the year but unfortunately lost in the last inning to La Familia. The team is currently rebuilding by leveraging their farm system talent as they hope to bring brighter days for the Spring season.
