The International Stickball League is a non-profit global organization which promotes the game of stickball around the world. The organization currently has participating leagues in Florida, New York, Panama, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.
In partnership with Team USA, the goal is to visit various countries and inner cities around the world to teach the game of stickball to the less privileged inner-city kids. Stickball is affordable and accessible to anyone with the desire to exercise (promote health), be part of a team (promote teamwork) and to make a difference in their community (leadership). The members of Team USA agree that it’s nearly impossible to “take the kids off the street” as many of us came from the same types of streets and playgrounds. Instead we choose to promote a productive game which can be played on these streets. With the support of sponsorships and friendships around the world, our goal is to make Stickball (currently a game) a world recognized sport.
Below you will see photos illustrating our impact in Florida, NYC, Panama, and the Dominican Republic so far. We also plan on teaching stickball in Curacao, Venezuela, perhaps Colombia before going into Asia in 2010.
Each year after introducing the game to the inner city kids and adults of various countries, we intend to host a World Stickball Classic tournament in Orlando Florida and/or a participating country to recognize the efforts of the players that have proven their dedication towards the game of Stickball by being voted among their fellow country teammates.
